South Korean Romance Film Inspires Real-Life Break-Up Agency

If your romantic relationship is doomed to failure but you simply cannot summon the courage to end it, then boy, does China have the service for you! For the equivalent of anywhere between $15 and $30 USD, Chinese residents can hire a break-up agency to end their relationship. Is it cowardly? Yes! Painless? Yes! (Well, for you.) Inspired by a romance film? Yes again! After seeing the Korean film Sad Movie, Tu Weiming, a 25-year-old man from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, started up a break-up service to help smooth strangers’ heartbreaks. Offered via the e-commerce website Taobao, Weiming and his agents charge clients on a case-by-case basis depending on the time, travel and consolation gifts involved. Agents deliver news of break-up through phone call, e-mail or instant message, proving that there is indeed something worse than being dumped via IM: Being dumped by a third party via IM. Several competing break-up agencies have popped up in China and while their break-up services vary slightly by company, they all reject cases that involve libel, criminal behavior, a partner under the age of 18, a partner in an ambiguous relationship or a partner that is mentally unstable. (You’re going to have to handle that one yourself.) A break-up agent who spoke with WantChinaTimes.com added that agencies “usually” reject cases of married couples. So that’s great news for the institution of marriage, or human evolution or something. Sad Movie, the 2005 South Korean ensemble film that inspired this break-up industry, follows one character who takes a job helping other couples break up. Ironically, he finds employment to woo back his ex-girlfriend, who dumped him because of his career instability. Check out an excerpt below. Break-up agencies are not just limited to China though. According to the BBC News, there is a German businessman who informs unsuspecting spouses and partners that their significant others want to end their relationships. The 52-year-old goes by the nickname “The Terminator” and charges slightly more money to deliver the news in person. · Not In Love Anymore? Watercooler: Charm-Free Agents

Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn Eesh. Am i made to like these people? Last evening, NBC did itself no favors by premiering Free Agents soon after its much-more enjoyable effort, Up With The Evening. Discuss suffering in contrast. Whereas the Applegate-Arnett comedy has charm, potential and Maya Rudolph, this Hank Azaria factor had... Hank Azaria's chest. Seriously, people jarringly hairless guy-mounds should have be a mention inside the credits involving the opening mattress room scene which way-too clingy t-shirt he was sporting soon after. Oh, Agents also had the fabulous Kathryn Hahn, who is able to do greater than just hamming up just like a widow susceptible to sleeping with Azaria's desperate divorcee otherwise guzzling wine and making by helping cover their portraits of her dead fiancé. With various British fave, the u . s . states adaptation - about spin doctors inside a PR firm staffed by grotesquely annoying stereotypes like the prerequisite lothario together with a bitchy secretary who may really inspire self-harming among audiences - wants us to find out Azaria's neurotic as with a way appealing. Nevertheless the writing just reduces him with a metrosexual Woodsy Allen with no backbone in addition to less game (crying after sex?!), which sucks, because Azaria generally is a wholly likeable artist. Range from the wasted talents of Hahn and Anthony Stewart Mind, here reprising his Uk role since the oddly lascivious boss, and honestly, we're thinking they need to all fire their Agents. 'All My Children's' Alicia Minshew Is Ready to Move On (Exclusive)

ABC Alicia Minshew has played one of the most popular characters on ABC's All My Children since 2002. As Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) daughter, Kendall Hart, fans have gone from hating her devious ways to loving the woman she has become. With the broadcast end of the daytime soap approaching next Friday, Minshew reveals to The Hollywood Reporter exclusively that she wouldn't return fulltime to Prospect Park's online continuation of the series. STORY: Susan Lucci Criticizes ABC Daytime Chief in New Epilogue "I know they are starting to approach people now," Minshew tells us. "If they were to come to me and ask me to do it [and] if I could work it out where I could maybe be recurring, I could pop in every now and then, I could work with these people that I love and still be a part of this. I would be open to that." Otherwise, the actress tells us that she's ready to do something fresh. "Something funny. Something light," she says. "I'd love to do a sitcom," she adds. "You know, but I don't really get a chance to do stuff like that when I'm on a soap, because it's a daytime drama, so everything is very dramatic. So, I'm really open to kind of whatever the universe is going to lay my way, whatever it is... but I'm leaning towards doing something funny in life, because I enjoy that and because I know I can do it. I'm craving something that's completely the opposite of what I've been doing." Meanwhile, her TV mom and close friend, Lucci, has been making recent headlines resulting from rewrites to her memoir that reveal she isn't happy at all with ABC brass for canceling the show. She writes among other critiques that the head of the network's daytime unit, Brian Frons, has "that fatal combination of ignorance and arrogance." Minshew says even she's surprised by her cast mate's fury. STORY: 'Desperate Housewives' EP Bob Daily Addresses Susan Lucci Casting Rumors "I knew that she did not like it, but I did not know the level at which she was... I mean, she was really pissed," she tells us. " But, you know what? Good for her. I mean, for God's sakes the woman has been on that show for so long. It has been her life. And she should feel free to say however she feels." On the other hand, Minshew says she understands the business reasons for canceling the show. "If talk shows and reality TV is cheaper to produce," she says. "And you have to do it to save money, then you've got to do it. It is kind of changing with the times." And as for the big question of whether Lucci will be returning for the online incarnation of the series? "As far as I heard, Susan said no," Minshew tells us. Minshew is represented by Newman-Thomas Management.
